Monday Madness

Places I have been:

Many coffee houses - I frequent different ones so they don't start to know me by name :-)

Exclusively in the east. Mainly in the Southeastern United States - I am not what you would call worldly!

Late for work - way too often, but I am working on that. :-D

It is funny how the biggest question in your life changes from - sale beer or good beer? to feed solids or wait?

I have been offered so much advice in this respect (can't tell you how many times I have heard, "I put cereal in my kids bottles at x weeks) and I am sure everyone has thier reasons for what they chose to do - but I have to tell ya, I am just not comfortable with giving my baby cereal just yet.

Everything I have read says it can lead to food allergies -etc. b/c thier stomaches are not fully developed. And really the only reason people start early is so that thier baby will sleep through the night.

I haven't seen any scientific (or studies) proof that feeding cereal early helped babies start sleeping through the night earlier, just a lot of testimonies from several different moms I know - and what is thier idea of sleeping through the night - and what do they consider early? I just have mroe questions about that than I do answers.

But then I read something in a pediatric journal saying that babies should not have more than 32 oz of liquid in a day - so we decided to keep track of what Rowan was eating in a day - and we fouund that she was eating 30-40 oz a day of formula - so then I thought --> OK, maybe I should go ahead and start her on solids - but why should a baby not have more than 32 oz in a day of fluids? Is it detrimental to thier health or something - and are these specific fluids? does formula mixture or breastmilk count in that? So I was just confused.

I finally gave into Jeremy and societal pressure, and tried cereal - we mixed one tablespoon in on oz of formula. Rowan wasn't too thrilled with the whole concept, but it was entertaining.

Then I finally got in touch with her doctor today - and she says - unless there is a reason to start her on solids (such as she is all of a sudden getting up more during the night - which she has started getting up one more time in a night) we really should wait until 4-6 months to give her solids. And she can have as much formula in a day that she wants - so that settled my mind there.

And honestly - her getting up during the night is not really bothering me - I am starting to get used to sleeping in only snatches. It does get to Jeremy sometimes, not sure why though - he is getting his 7-8 hours a night - albiet in 3-4 hour chunks, but then so am I. I figure she grows up fast enough, why rush it? But then I am much more laid back in that respect than Jeremy. So I have decided to wait, and I will discuss going to solids in more detail with her doctor at her 4 month appointment.

So that is the all important question that is bothering me at this stage in my life - funny how life changes! :-)
